I have a date tonight!

I have a date with Garth Brooks in Kansas City tonight! Of course, my sister, my daughter, my husband, my future son-in-law, my brother in law, my niece and her husband, my nephew and his wife and my baby niece and her husband will all be with me! We have tickets to Garth's concert tonight at the Sprint Center.

My love affair with Garth started when a friend of Bob's said to me, after a long discussion of the merits of rock v. country, that he could change my mind with one song. I took that bet because all my life I have listened to country, my mom and dad's wailing country and have hated it.

Bob's friend (Bob, but that is confusing) put on I've Got Friends and I was hooked. Of course I lied and said something sarcastic but I was hooked. I bought the tape and listened to it all the way through. I have loved Garth ever since.

I have also learned to love other country people, particularly Alabama, but I claimed them as a rock band who took a wrong turn. However, I have learned through time that country bands really rake in the money, so who can blame them?

I'll catch you up tomorrow and hopefully have a few pictures to post!

  1. Lucky you!
I like country if it has a rockish flavor to it too. Depending on the lyrics, of course.
I am really lookin forward to the Wynonna concert we will be going to in December...just my sweetie and me.

By the way...wish you could come to the sleepover...we would show the kids how sleepovers should be!
Painting nails...giggling...chick flicks...you know. I guess given our decision to watch our weight we would have to watch the chocolate...so sad...this getting older thing.

My daughter's friend will be in Branson. Her dad works with my husband at Sight and Sound and will be reprising his role as Noah in the new Sight and Sound Theatre there.

  5. His concert was the THE BEST I ever attended and I've seen a million. He was better than Fleetwood Mac! I don't know how that man moves like he does and lives to tell about it. I will always remember that concert and the night we made eye contact!!

I have every single album that man ever recorded including his greatest hits and various compilation cds. Well, I take that back. I no longer have his Christmas album (it was stolen from my car.) I can't wait to hear all about it.

    Love,
    Julie

  8. Have a wonderful time! I used to only listen to rock....then I switched to country. I really love the old standards though. The ones my parents listened to.

Been meaning to ask you, how did you get involved with a wine club? I would love do that that in my area..

  10. Hi, my name's bj and I'm glad to meet ya!
I was never a country music fan, either...oh, I loved Ray Charles, Johnny Cash was MY man in black and Roy Oberson brought me to my knees (as you can see, I am OLD)...but not G. Brooks! Until, I, too, first heard the words, "Oh, I got friends in low places....". I'm not QUITE as big a fan as you but I CAN see why you like him a lot! Glad you got to go see him!!
