Frugal Luxuries #6

It's Spa Day!

There is nothing more wonderful that being pampered and treated to wonderful skin care treatments. While it is fabulous to have those things done to you, it can be just as wonderful to provide them for yourself!

Today you are going to enjoy a treatment for the body! All the ingredients are natural and probably can be found in your cupboard. It is the perfect time to do this to prepare your skin for Valentine's Day!

Here's your ingredient list:

Soft romantic music on the CD player
Candles from around the house
1 cucumber, thinly sliced
iced filtered water (to drink!)
1 c table salt
1 c sugar
1 c oatmeal
1 1/2 c vegetable oil
2 T honey
3 T real maple syrup (if you don't have it, don't buy it!)
1 c bubble bath (unscented or vanilla is best)
1/3 c soy milk (regular milk is fine!)
3 oz chopped chocolate (dark is best but any is fine!)
1/2 olive oil mayonnaise (regular is fine, but do not use salad dressing!)
2 T olive oil, warmed
1 t vaseline
1 t glycerine (can omit)
3 T plain yogurt

Set up your spa area. Place candles around the room, light. Place several slices of thinly sliced cucumber in a pitcher of ice water. Set out three fluffy towels. Undress, and slip into a robe. Pour some cucumber water into a pretty glass and sip.

Smooth 1/2 c olive oil mayo into dry hair. Microwave a dry towel for 45 seconds, wrap around hair. Sip water!

Draw a bath, add 1 c bubble bath. Heat soy milk and melt chocolate into milk. Pour into bath, swirl with hand to mix. Pat yogurt onto skin using a cotton ball or fingers. Place two cucumber slices over eyes. Sink into tub and relax for 20 minutes! Don't forget to sip water!

Throw away the cucumber slices. Make body scrub by mixing 1 c salt, 1 c sugar, 1 c oatmeal, 1 1/2 c vegetable oil, 2 T honey and 3 T maple syrup. Start shower. Unwrap hair, rinse in shower. Rinse face. Scrub body with body scrub (DO NOT SHAVE) and rinse. Dry off with towel. Sip water!

Mix together body lotion. 2 T warmed olive oil, 1 t vaseline and 1 t glycerin. Smooth over body, pat towel over body. Sip some water!

Your body is now tingly, hydrated, and moisturized.

  3. I can assure you - I have nothing like your recipe for relaxation... but I plan on the olive oil/mayo trick for my hair very soon..I wouldn't have thought to microwave the towel...neat touch!

  4. I just can't bring myself to use food in the bathroom! The only kitchen item that I've used that truly works is sugar as a body scrub.
