Sunny and Bright Home Tour 2016

Welcome to the 2016 Sunny and Bright Summer Homes Tour!
We are so glad you are here.

Our tour schedule this week is

Wednesday At Home with Jenna
Thursday (me!)
Friday  Decor to Adore

So let's get started on my home in St. Charles, Missouri.  I live in a wonderful community based on new urbanist principles called New Town that promotes walking, outdoor living, residential live/work units, businesses, all within the footprint of the development.  Our home lies within the Beach District, one of five districts within New Town.  All homes in New Town are designed by a single architect, in the Neo Traditional fashion.  This article by Southern Living magazine does a fantastic job of describing our neighborhood.

Today's tour features the main level of our home.  Our master bedroom, bath and a powder room are on the main level but won't be featured today. Coming in from the front porch you step right into the living room and can see all the way through to the back door!  This open concept is what sold us on the house when we decided to build three years ago.

Summer is a time for red, white and blue for my house!  The simple banner makes a powerful statement in this room, along with the touches of red in the pillows.

We love the open space in our kitchen, with those important touches of red throughout.  We'll get to look a bit closer as we go through.

You can see the pops of red throughout the home.  My grandmother told me that if you decorate with red, you should have a pop of yellow.  If you decorate with yellow, you should have a pop of red.  Even if that doesn't hold true today, I always do this and remember my grandmother with much love!

When we built our home we debated about a formal dining room or not.  We remembered our lovely dining room in our former home but also remembered how little we actually used it.  The decision was no formal dining room, but I like to use this table set to set a more formal mood.  The place settings are a mixture of items bought from Pier 1, The Dollar Store, Pottery Barn and antiques.

Every space in this little home has to have a purpose, even the side of the refrigerator!  This is our little home station.  The white containers are from The Container Store and I asked our neighbor to Cricut our names.  The calendar post it notes were also from The Container Store.  The square photos are photos I have taken of the sunsets we can see from our home.

This is the work station of our kitchen.  It is my next big project.  I plan to have a custom made cabinet built for this space and it will house the mixer, the coffee maker, coffee grinder and all the different types of coffee pots my husband uses.  For now, these shelves and baskets do a lot of work for us!

I hope you enjoyed the tour today!  We are always happy to host such lovely homes on our tour.  Tomorrow, don't forget to visit Laura at Decor to Adore to see what she has in store for us.  I know it will inspire you!

  6. Nice. If I could only keep it looking that way. Taking the time to change the colors and the theme doesn't seem to happen any more either. I was so good at it when the kids were little. Ever holiday would be a different way to decorate. Now.. It is good just to get cleaned. My focus changed.

    1. I understand, Sandy. That happened to me, too. I think I was a little depressed when no one was home to see it. Then I realized, I LOVE IT and so I started doing it for me!
