Crazy School Day!

Yum
In anticipation of a lot of snow, our school is out early today (1:00) and our place is going NUTS! We didn't tell the kids outright but they can feel it in their bones, I swear to goodness!

We are anticipating 2-3 inches this afternoon with another 2-3 inches tonight. I am anticipating that we will not have school on Friday! If no school, I hope to catch up on some blogging time!

Kitchen Duty!

Yum

I was hanging out with Bj over at Sweet Nothings and she was talking about her kitchen. She has the sweetest kitchen, which she has posted about before. Well, actually she had posted about her favorite spaces on Rate my Space.

Kitchens are such an interesting thing. They are where your friends want to hang out and talk to you when you have them over. I haven't ever figured that out, when there is a perfectly good living room just steps away!

Bob loves to cook, which I am sure I have told you once or twice. He gets very territorial about the kitchen and it makes you not want to be around. He snaps at you and generally behaves like those ill tempered chefs you see from time to time on tv. Yet, I will find myself wandering in there to see what he has going on... taking the risk he won't snap at me like a river turtle!

I decorated my kitchen because at the time I was the main source of cooking. I think Bob likes it. He indulged me when I wanted a red countertop and it is one thing I do not regret. I love it. It sings to me while I cook!

I also love my undivided sink. We bake lots of cookies and I wanted a sink that could hold a cookie sheet flat. This one does it!

Our appliances don't match... our stove/refrig is white and our dishwasher/microwave is black. I would love to have all black but the refrig and stove are only 3 years old! So if anything gets replaced, it will be the others.

The cork bulletin board was made by me. Those are corks from bottles that Bob and I have enjoyed over the years. I have since made a cork wreath as well that hangs in the kitchen!

I hope you enjoyed the tour of the kitchen. I enjoyed showing it to you!

It's National Pie Day!

Yum

Some of us from Tammy's blog The Pink Magnolia got together and decided to post recipes celebrating this illustrious day. I am sorely afraid that pies are becoming extinct, so I am happy to take part in this delicious celebration!

This pie I am showing you today is Cracker Pie. It is one of those inventions that happen in times of great necessity.

Roll Call:

24 crackers, saltines or Ritz (who knows, Goldfish crackers might be good, too!)
3 egg whites, room temp and beaten until firm peaks stand
1 t vanilla
1 t baking powder
1 c packed brown sugar or 1 c white sugar
1 c pecans, chopped

Beat the egg whites until firm peaks show. Add in sugar and beat until sugar grains don't show. Add the vanilla and the baking powder and beat some more. Then fold in the crackers and the pecans.

Turn into a grease pie pan. It is important to use a pie pan that you like. That way, even if the pie is disgusting, it is pretty to look at. Bake at 325 for 25 minutes. Sprinkle with chocolate chips if desired.

My Heart is Broken...

Yum

Heath Ledger was found dead in his apartment today. A 28 year old living his dream found dead. I enjoyed his acting so very much. He leaves behind a small daughter. I will pray for him and his family tonight. What a shame.

I won!

Yum

I won a giveaway from Tammy at The Pink Magnolia. The plate with the roses was my prize! Isn't it beautiful? Especially in my dining room with those walls! I think it would be perfect to serve petit fours, don't you?

Bath Cocktails

Yum

Have I told you about Ashley's business adventure? Ashley makes and creates bath products and scents them like your favorite cocktail! She won a business contest this past summer and has had all kinds of community support to help her get started.

She just found out that she will be featured in the Kappa Delta newsletter that reaches thousands of Kappa Deltas and their alumni. She was thrilled.

She is featured every other month in our local Inside Columbia magazine. They are tracking her progress.

She has a blog that describes her product and how she got started. My personal favorite is the Chocolate Martini sugar scrub. Wow.Bath Cocktails

Five Weird or Random things about MOI!

Kat, from Justabeachkat, tagged me for this Meme! These are always fun but I am always a little paranoid people will say, "oh, a, let's take her off the old blog favorite list" if you get to know me too well!

2. I was a majorette, a cheerleader and on the dance squad in HS.

3. I can drink a gallon of milk by myself in 2 days.

4. I hate coffee but love the way it smells.

5. I used to tell people I was an only child.

A Wien Shower!

Ashley was honored by her cousin and grandmother with a shower for her wedding. Local relatives and friends were invited. Grandma Steffes crocheted this lovely tablecloth for Ashley. We have decided to use it on her cake table. Won't it be lovely over a black tablecloth?

No greater calling!

Yum

My cousin Lisa and her husband Lee have started a new church in Athens, Georgia. If you live nearby, I would encourage you to check them out. The photo is a map and invitation to come to their first service!

Lisa and her family are very special people. I am blessed to have her in my life, she has been able to lead so many people to Christ in her kind, gentle but bubbly outlook on life. She knows no stranger and can talk about Jesus as if he is standing right next to her, which I know He is.

Lisa signs her emails: Be joyful always; pray continually; give thanks in all circumstances, for this is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus. I Thessalonians 5:16-18 Every time I get something from her, I stop to pray and thank God for my blessings!

Much love to you Lisa, and I pray for God's blessings on your service this weekend. I wish I could be there with you!

Wedding Plans

Yum
Ashley and Eric are getting married in March. I really feel time tick tick ticking away and the details are starting to get overwhelming. Musicians, sheet music, dinners, chair covers, candy treats, favors, etc.... the American wedding is a thing of management beauty!

I would love to show you a picture of Ashley's wedding gown but Eric checks in here from time to time, I believe... and I am worried he'd see the dress. I can tell you there is a lovely heavy lace applique on the train and on the bodice, that it was handstitched by a Stephens design student and that there are 400 swavorski crystals sprinkled here and there and there with more to come. There is a black satin sash with a diamond pin pinned onto it. The pin's design echos the swirl of the lace.

Ashley is wearing a french angled veil with ostrich feathers, ivory pearls and jet swavorski crystals on it.

Her flowers will be a work of art: designed and created by a posh flower shop where Ashley works, seasonal ivory blossoms with spring green accents and black ribbon... with rhinestone pins clipped in the bouquet.

Listen to me! Four months ago I would not be able to tell you ANY of this...

An award!

Yum

"So here's to all the blogs that you've discovered that you can't possibly live without. They make you laugh, cry, think and feel connected every time you read a post. They give you a thrill as you see them loading into your browser and you get an equally satisfying thrill when you see that they have commented on your blog."

Thank you so much from Tammy at the Pink Magnolia. I am going to copy her and say, if you are on my blog list to the right, please consider yourself awarded!

Engagement Photo!

Yum

Ashley and Eric have not had time to actually go to their photographer and have their engagement photos taken so I took a picture from LAST Christmas and with the help of my wonderful friend/sister Judy, changed it to this cute black and white photo. I love how happy they look and how Ashley fits right into his arms.

Bob's uncle, Virgil, passed away on Friday. This week will start off with traveling to Macon to the visitation on Monday and back to Macon on Tuesday for the funeral. His family and friends called him Slim, because, yep, he was slim. For years he ran a John Deere implement store but he has been retired for quite a while.

Ashley designed and staged a fashion show for the local bridal extravaganza which is being held today. Hopefully some photos will be shared later!

Bob was interviewed for the local TV station and the local paper caught me in a moment of excitement when one of our players broke two Cotton Bowl records! (in case you can't tell, I am the one on the right!)

Happy 2008 and the Cotton Bowl

Yum

Everyone cheer on the Missouri Tigers as they take on Arkansas in the Cotton Bowl! We are headed to Columbia to a party to help them win!

I hope 2008 started off with a bang! And remember, New Year's Resolutions don't start until tomorrow, today is a holiday!
