As I continue thinking about what it means to become more fully myself, I am realizing that personal style involves much more than what I see in the mirror. Fragrance is part of that expression, too. In my post, How to Use Fragrance to Transform Casual Outfits into Chic Ensembles, I explored the idea of perfume as an “invisible accessory,” something that can add personality and sophistication even to a very simple outfit. I love thinking about fragrance this way because choosing a scent can be just as intentional as choosing my jewelry, lipstick, or favorite scarf.
At this stage of my life, however, I am less interested in wearing a fragrance because it is fashionable and more interested in discovering what smells like me. Perhaps it is a soft floral that reflects my love of gardens and watercolor, something fresh and citrusy that matches my curiosity and energy, or a warm woody scent for the days when I want to feel grounded and confident. The original post suggests matching fragrance to clothing, occasion, and mood, but I want to take that idea one step further. I can choose fragrance according to the woman I feel like being that day.
That makes fragrance another piece of my Gia beauty routine, and maybe one of the most personal ones. I am learning that beauty at this point isn't about creating a new version of myself. It is about paying attention to who I already am and finding small ways to express her. Some mornings that means moisturizer, makeup, earrings, and a beautiful fragrance before I ever leave the house. No one else even has to notice the perfume. I notice it. And perhaps that is the best reason of all to wear it.
