A Sentence a Day

I got this idea from Sarah , who got it from  Pinky ...who got it from  Rebecca . I thought it was such a good idea that I decided to do it, too.   I just love how it's one sentence, so you have to be really intentional with how you word it to make you remember how you were feeling that day when youwrote it.  There's a link up on Sarah's page in June, so I hope you see me there! May 1  Schubert might be the most wonderful and compelling composer that I have ever had the privilege of listening to.

Pulled Pork Tacos #SRC

The Secret Recipe Club has a special reveal day today!  We are centered around BBQs and Picnics and I had the most delightful blog to sneak around called Well Dined.   Sarah is the blogger there and she and her husband, like us, are foodies who like to cook at home.  I think we could be great friends. Once, on a school dare, I dyed my hair pink and purple and turned out that I loved it! There were a number of great recipes on Sarah's blog that suited for a picnic, like this Quinoa Strawberry Watermelon Salad , and I could really see me working with this recipe for Peeps Cookies to make a picnic version.  Ultimately though, I chose this recipe to feature from the blog.

Laundry

When I was married with a little baby, I thought our laundry would never end.  Then, I'd think of my sister, with two BOYS and I'd be a lot better!  Now that there are just the two of us, you'd think that laundry woes would be behind us.  Not so much.  When I was a young woman, I would have loved this advice from Masshole Mommy about laundry.

Did you know?

This is a sponsored post.  All opinions are my own! Were you aware that Groupon now has store coupons?   It's called Groupon Coupons  and they carry coupons for major stores and companies.  I was so happy to see that they carried store coupons for some of my favorite stores, such as: Kohl's Macy's Shutterfly Travelocity Home Decorators These are just a few of the stores that Groupon Coupon has coupons for!  The list goes on and on! I'm always on the lookout for a great coupon.  My father-in-law always had coupons in his shirt pocket organized by expiration date.  We always asked what deals were to be had today and he'd share whatever coupons he had!  Coupons are a great way to really save money!

Farmers Eggs #CooktheBooksClub

Our April-May Cook the Books Book Club selection is    Burnt Toast Makes You Sing Good: A Memoir with Recipes from an American Family  by Kathleen Flinn .  I'd read Ms. Flinn's book  The Sharper Your Knife The Less You Cry as a recommendation from my husband.  He often chooses great books! I loved Burnt Toast as it is a wonderful set of small moment stories, the kind of stories I had my students write as a teacher.  As a child growing up in the 70s myself, I could easily relate to her 70s memories. Hardworking parents who believed in hardworking children!  This family history is "peppered" with memories and family favorite recipes. What I loved about this book is that it did for me what comfort foods do:  it put me in a wonderful place, feeling good from tip to toe.  If there is such a genre of comfort books, this would be in it!   Her parents were such a steady influence on her and her siblings.  As a midwestern girl myself, I could easily place myself in

Grilled Banana Boats #SundaySupper

We've been making Banana Boats since Ashley was a tot, and she still asks for them regularly during the summer.  It is our go-to summer dessert.  This banana boat has a small nod to the S'more, using graham cracker cereal for a little crunch. Our #SundaySupper theme this week is Throw Something on the Barbie.   Grilling permeates our neighborhood during the summer and we are definitely one of those who rely on grilling for our meals.  Did you know that there is a distinct difference between BBQing and Grilling?  According to Gary Wiviott, author of "Low and Slow: Master the Art of Barbecue in 5 Easy Lessons"  grilling is "hot and fast" and barbecue is "low and slow."  I learned that on the Sunday Supper website.  If you aren't familiar with it, you should go and check it out!

Top Ten Flowers for Summer Color

My husband and I love to shop for flowers and I love finding new varieties!  While shopping this spring, we found these delightful flowers that would bring a lot of color to your outdoor spaces.  In our Garden Club we suggest parents and children identify the colors in these flowers.  It sparks a lot of discussion, especially with kindergarteners who are learning there are a lot of names for pink! Grown ups, these flowers are planted around our home and give us a summer lengths enjoyment with some simple care of watering, deadheading and feeding. Kids, to make it even more fun, download this adorable BINGO Flower Color printable below for your neighborhood walk.  Maybe you can talk your parents into a prize!

Orange Mint Bundt Cake #BundtBakers

It's been awhile since I participated in Bundt Bakers but I missed it a lot when I was gone!  I love to bake and cake, any kind of cake, is my favorite.  I enjoy using a bundt pan because the cakes always look so pretty when they come from the pan. The theme this month is A Thousand and One Nights.  Listen to how    Lara from  Tartacadabra   got us to get involved: Let Scheherazade's tales ensnare you as they ensnared Shahryar. Let them inspire you to bake something with the most suggestive ingredients from Arabic, Persian and Indian kitchens. Use pistachios, almonds, dates, raisins, cashews, spearmint, saffron, cardamom, rosewater, orange blossom water, figs, dried apricots, coconuts, sesame (obviously!)... anything you would expect to be served at Aladdin and Badroulbadour's table, while belly dancers entertain them and their guests. I hope that you will enjoy this combination of orange and mint, and that you will be swept away by the romance of Arabic, Pers

Products I Love

It's that time when I share with you some of the products I tried and tested this month.  As always, I will disclose if I received the product at a discount or for free, or if I discovered it on my own! My first product is from Chewy.com  I love that website!  They sent yummy treats from Cesar dog food.  My dogs are familiar with this brand and are always so excited to see it come out from the fridge.  We typically let it come to room temp so that the flavors are the best.  Of course, my dogs like the Filet Mignon and the Porterhouse the best! There is gravy and meat chunks and my dogs go crazy for it.   This product was given to me free for my honest review. Truman is begging for more! My next product was discovered at Walgreens.  I love going into Walgreens and talking to the ladies at the make up counter.  They always have great coupons and give aways and they like to chat like I do. This month I was told about this product from Biore.  It is a baking soda face wash.

Deviled Eggs with Shrimp #SundaySupper

Hola!  This week at #SundaySupper we are sharing Spanish tapas with you.  I love tapas, the sharing of food is always a fun time.  I like to compare tastes with other people and get their take on the experience! With these Deviled Eggs with Shrimp, you'll have a lot to talk about!  The green olives add a nice salty bite to these creamy eggs.  That's why you don't see any salt added to the recipe.  The shrimp also has a briny-ness to them and adds a delightful texture. Tapas are a fun way to host a weekend gathering for friends.  Make a couple of tapas, ask friends to bring one to share, and with a pitcher of Sangria, you will be set for the night!

Strawberry Shortcake Trifle #SecretRecipeClub

It's time for the reveal of the Secret Recipe Club!  I had a lovely blog to snoop around. When I was visiting Michaela's site, An Affair from the Heart, I had no difficulty picking a recipe since it is May, and time for thinking about Memorial Day picnics.  Her Red, White and Blue Strawberry Shortcake Trifle sounded delicious and easy, two things I like!  Such a great recipe to share with The Secret Recipe Club readers! What's the Secret Recipe Club?  It's a group of bloggers who love to cook and share recipes on a monthly basis.  Each month we are assigned to a food blog where we explore to our hearts content, then choose a recipe to duplicate.  On Reveal Day, we find out who had our blog and what they chose to make!

Prim Goods Beauty Bundle

I was given this product for free in exchange for my honest review.  All opinions are my own. Mother's Day is around the corner, and what I am about to share with you would make the PERFECT gift for Mother's Day.  Why would this be the PERFECT gift?  Let me tell you about Prim Goods. Primrose Hill is a residential recovery center for women and women with young children who have drug and alcohol addictions.  This is one of the few facilities where children can stay with their mother during recovery.  All this, and it is located here in Missouri. Primrose is a Missouri wildflower that flowers early in the spring.  It is an appropriate name choice for a place where women are moving into a new season full of hope!

Coffee Gelee` for Taste Creations

I am the odd ball at my house as I do not drink coffee.  I absolutely love the way it smells but I have never found a way to enjoy coffee.  Until now. Our Taste Creations bloggers decided on coffee for our challenge this month.  I knew I would have to work hard at finding something that I would want to share.  My husband knows a lot about coffee and how to prepare it in different ways, so I considered having him write the post. Then I heard about coffee gelee`.

Shirley's Potato Soup #SundaySupper

Such a delightful event this week as we share our mom's favorite dishes.  I know my mom has many but this potato soup, called Shirley's Potato Soup, is unique.  This soup, made with creamy milk, potatoes and onions, has egg dumplings in it and that makes it different from most.  I don't know the orgin of the soup, but I do know that my Grandmother Lorraine Wilson Holt also made it. This is a photo of my mom and me when I was first born.  Brownie is my Grandmother's dog.  I'm not sure he was very fond of me! A few years ago, we started asking Mom to make this soup for us for Christmas.  We love the feeling of home that it brings, plus we are preparing the next generation to love it as much as us.  Four generations (that we know of!) have enjoyed this potato soup.
