Pool Noodle Sprinkler Fun!

Wondering how to keep the kids occupied all summer long? See our list of Summer Activities for Kids of All Ages!  I found this Pool Noodle Sprinkler to be the most fun of all!

We have partnered with some savvy blogging moms and grandmas to bring you a collection of summer fun ideas to do with kids of all ages from Pre-K up to those precious teens. Be sure to scroll all the way down for even more ideas!

I live in a neighborhood full of kids and I love to hear them laughing and squealing with fun, especially during the summer months. We have several lakes, a canal, and now a beach area (plus a traditional swimming pool!) to keep kids occupied, but sometimes you just don't want to get up and go. This is where the Pool Noodle Sprinkler comes into play.

Check out this pool noodle hack and see how it works:  Using a full-sized pool noodle or foam pipe insulation, cut the pool noodle or poke holes all over the noodle (the more holes, the more fun!) using a sharpened pencil, a wire from a clothes hanger or even a metal skewer. Be careful, there is some resistance at first, and then the wire will plunge in. Don't do this on your lap!  If you make the holes in a row spaced out, you will get the highest stream, and is best if you plan to lay it on the ground.  I am hanging mine from a tree, so I am going to poke holes all around.

Here's the step-by-step:

Yield: 1 water sprinkler

Estimated cost: $2

Pool Noodle Sprinkler

A $1 pool noodle from the dollar store is a great investment for summer water fun!
prep time: 30 Mperform time: total time: 30 M

materials:

  • 1 pool noodle, any color
  • 24" duct tape

tools:

  • strong scissors
  • skewer for making holes

steps:

  1. Cut off 2" off one end of the pool noodle.
  2. Cut the 2" section into 4 pieces.
  3. Stuff 2 or 3 of the pieces into one end of the pool noodle (this is to stop the water and build some pressure)
  4. Poke holes into pool noodle, all over.  If you plan to lay the sprinkler on the ground so kids can jump over it, then poke the holes about 2" apart in a straight line.
  5. If you have a sprayer nozzle on one end of the hose, remove it.
  6. Stuff the hose into the open end of the noodle.
  7. Wrap duct tape on the closed end and the hose end to secure it in place.
  8. Lay on the ground, holes up, or, hang from a tree.
  9. Turn on the water and let the fun begin!

NOTES:

The noodle will leak from the bottom a bit so poke your holes mainly toward the bottom of the noodle, near where you capped the end.
We tried capping the end with the bottom portion of a water bottle but saw very little difference.
