Turn Your HOME Into a Haven, Even on that Busy Road

Living on a busy road is rarely pleasant. Even worse, this is an issue which often creeps up on us when we’re least expecting. It may be that the road in question was quiet when you first moved in. Or, perhaps you simply didn’t foresee this being an issue when you decided to move here. Either way, you’re paying for it now because that traffic is about to drive you crazy.

Yellow house on a highway.

This is an issue many of us are facing as our roads get busier, and it can be a struggle. Sometimes, you may want to sell and move to the middle of nowhere. But, we all know how much time and money goes into moving house nowadays. Instead, then, it’s worth remembering that you can make your house a haven again without going anywhere. And, we’re going to look at how.

Consider sound-proofing

Often, it’s the constant sound of passing cars which really gets annoying. How can you relax when engines rush past your window every few seconds? You can hardly hear yourself think, let alone focus on whatever you’re doing. The good news is, there is a simple enough solution, and it’s that of sound-proofing. There are plenty of roadside houses in which you can’t even hear outside, and yours could be one of them. Even better, this is simpler to achieve than we realize. Contacting companies like njahc.com for replacement windows could make a huge difference. Replacing doors and insulating walls could also see you silencing that racket.

Consider your layout

It may also be worth considering your layout. Many of us place our living rooms at the front of the house, for example, but this isn’t your best option. Something as simple as moving this to a back room could reduce that noise. The same goes for your bedroom. There’s no way you’ll be able to sleep in a front room, but a back one could be a whole different story. For the most part, moves like these are simple to make, and they could be game changers.

Find ways to increase privacy

Noise aside, the invasion which can come from a busy road can also disrupt your home's peace. That’s because you have to put up with headlights lighting up your rooms all night long. The moment you step outside your door, you’re exposed for every driver to see. It doesn’t have to be that way. Thick sets of curtains could be all it takes to block out those passing headlights. As can be seen from sites like www.arborday.org, hedges are also ideal for privacy. One of these around the front of your house could both hide you from passing cars, and provide a barrier when you first step outside.

These are all simple options which will cost a fraction of the price that a complete move would. But, they can each ensure that your home turns back into the haven you always wanted it to be, busy road or not.

  7. Soundproofing is important especially if you're too sensitive to noise and if you have a baby or a small child who finds it difficult to sleep or concentrate with studies while hearing the vehicles noise outside. It may be costly though.
