Preparing for Selling Your Home

When it comes to getting ready to sell your house, it seems like there are a million things to take care of and organize before you can even think about moving to your new place, but as long as you have a plan and are able to stick to that plan, then you can make the process a great deal easier on yourself than it would have been otherwise, so in this post we’re going to share with you some tips on how to prepare your house for selling.  My husband and I have sold four homes over the course of our marriage, and we have found that these tips really work!

Fix up any loose ends:

Before people sell their house, they’re typically trying to focus on all the bigger things that need to get done, and while that’s also a good idea, the things that people are actually going to notice when they come to view the place and when they move in are really the small details. So if you’ve been putting off certain repairs or things that need to be done in the house, such as fixing the draft in the bedroom window or finally getting round to that garage door repair that needs doing, then now is the time to start taking care of these things because they really will make all the difference.

Declutter:

If you’re like most people out there, you’ve probably found yourself collecting a lot of things over the years that you really don’t want, need or use, so if you’re looking for an excuse to finally get rid of this stuff, then moving house and getting ready to sell your place is the perfect excuse to declutter. Not only will it make you feel so much lighter and make your own move easier if you don’t have to take all the stuff with you, but it’s also going to make the place look more appealing to potential buyers instead of them coming in and seeing a complete mess everywhere.

Paint:

When it comes to small things that make a big difference in terms of brightening up a home, then painting has to be right up there at the top. Paint is so easy and affordable to come by and is really easy to use, so you don’t always need to hire someone to do this for you. You can add bright colors or simply go for neutral shades and no matter what it will make a big difference in any room.

Tidy your garden:

When it comes to home renovations, many people tend to overlook the garden, but you have to remember that the garden is actually a selling point of a home in and of itself, so it’s important that you spend a little time on this. The great thing about a garden is that it’s really not expensive to make it look great, so you can simply keep the grass cut and it will already make a big difference when it comes to the perception that potential buyers have of your place. If you want to go a little further, you can add things like some nice furniture, some solar lights or even some plants and flowers.

  13. I would suggest giving it a good scrub down. I've toured homes I wanted to buy before and was immediately turned off at how dirty some of the places were.
