3 Signs Something Is Wrong In Your Home

Do you ever feel something isn't quite right in your home? Typically, you're alerted of something untoward happening in your home, even if you can understand the message you are getting or immediately spot the problem.

But what if the signs aren't as obvious? What do you need to be looking for to spot problems at home before they risk your safety? Signs such as unusual sounds, changes in water pressure, or cracks in walls could all be indicators of potential safety issues.

Smells

You're familiar with the unique scent of your home, the comforting fragrance that greets you each day. This familiarity can be a source of comfort, a reassuring sign that all is well in your home.

But if you experience a change in the scent in your home or new pungent odors are around, it's crucial to investigate. It could just be a cooking endeavor gone wrong, or your pet throws out a wet dog smell post-walk. However, if there is a rotten egg smell in house, for example, you need to take immediate action and get this checked. This could indicate a natural gas leak in your home or surrounding areas, a situation that requires urgent attention. But if there is a burning or musty smell, investigate and get the cause located and fixed as soon as possible (in an emergency, call 911 for direct assistance so you are covered if the burning smell indicates a fire).

Jammed Doors

If your doors, which once closed nicely and seamlessly flush into the frame, are currently jamming or opening instead of staying closed, or you can't open them as easily, this could be a sign of foundation problems. It's a rather discreet issue, and something you might not realize is going on until the problem becomes severe. But if you notice a change in how your doors and even windows open and close, it could be worth getting your foundations checked, especially if you notice cracks in structural walls, too, just to get a better idea of what you are dealing with.

Inconsistent Room Temp

Are your rooms feeling unusually hot or cold? Are they not as consistent as they once were? This can be indicative of a few issues. It could be that your HVAC unit isn't working as it needs to be, and you should get it checked out to ensure it is not faulty or there are no blockages impacting the interaction of air into the room. Or it could be you have damage to your roof, and the air is entering and escaping from atop the property, making it harder to attain an even temperature. Or it might be your need to address the drafts coming via windows or doors as poorly insulated windows and doors or older style options can allow more air into the room much easier than modern alternatives. When addressing inconsistent room temperatures, you need to understand how they can be impacted so you can identify the problem and get it rectified.
