Kitchen Duty!

I was hanging out with Bj over at Sweet Nothings and she was talking about her kitchen. She has the sweetest kitchen, which she has posted about before. Well, actually she had posted about her favorite spaces on Rate my Space.

Kitchens are such an interesting thing. They are where your friends want to hang out and talk to you when you have them over. I haven't ever figured that out, when there is a perfectly good living room just steps away!

Bob loves to cook, which I am sure I have told you once or twice. He gets very territorial about the kitchen and it makes you not want to be around. He snaps at you and generally behaves like those ill tempered chefs you see from time to time on tv. Yet, I will find myself wandering in there to see what he has going on... taking the risk he won't snap at me like a river turtle!

I decorated my kitchen because at the time I was the main source of cooking. I think Bob likes it. He indulged me when I wanted a red countertop and it is one thing I do not regret. I love it. It sings to me while I cook!

I also love my undivided sink. We bake lots of cookies and I wanted a sink that could hold a cookie sheet flat. This one does it!

Our appliances don't match... our stove/refrig is white and our dishwasher/microwave is black. I would love to have all black but the refrig and stove are only 3 years old! So if anything gets replaced, it will be the others.

The cork bulletin board was made by me. Those are corks from bottles that Bob and I have enjoyed over the years. I have since made a cork wreath as well that hangs in the kitchen!

I hope you enjoyed the tour of the kitchen. I enjoyed showing it to you!

Would you like to comment?

  1. Terri,

I love the red and I also have an undivided sink and it's really deep. I just got all my appliances to match this week when my dishwasher died a few weeks ago, now they are all stainless. I also like how you decorated your kitchen.

  2. Oh, I enjoyed the tour of your kitchen very much, Terri. Thanks for sharing. Very cute kitchen...
I have a posting coming up of what to do about certain things in my house and my kitchen cabinets are included. I love getting ideas from others about everything! Fun!

  3. Thanks for the tour. I love your red counters. My appliances are black and white too. I think I want stainless when I can replace them. Maybe all black. I love black accents. Nice job on the cork board. I save corks too. I edged a calendar holder that I made with them. I'm not using it now as I have moved away from my wine theme.
    Hugs,
    Nan

  6. That is a great kitchen. I love the red!
An undivided sink would be such a blessing as we are always using cookie sheets for something or other...so often it is chicken nuggets in this house.

Thanks for sharing! I love it!

It must be fun hving family and friends visit with you in this kitchen while you both prepare a meal. I also love the table setting as you say just a few steps from your lovely kitchen.

I must put my kitchen on show this week it looks like a fun thing to do.

  11. I love your photos! Thanks for sharing them with us. I was glad to see those red countertops. How cute is that? Love the new banner, too... and I was also very sad about Heath Ledger's death. Fame is sometimes not the best companion for a young person. So sad.

It is a grand kitchen, very warm and inviting. Love the red...and your new banner, which I initially spelled as nabber, meaning I need to go to bed. :) And I'm only full of chocolate, not wine.

  21. I love the red, Terri! And my mother would flip for all of your Fat Chefs. She has a ton of them. How long are your windows in your dining area? I like the idea of covering the just the bottom half.

  26. I love your kitchen!! my diningroom is a goat nursery at the moment and my kitchen counters are covered in soap molds cause I had to make and pour soap in the kitchen while I took care of baby goats. One day I will get back to decorating and finishing projects. Thanks for the ideal on the wine corks! I have something I can make for next Christmas

  29. You have a wonderful kitchen Terri! I love the red countertop and the big sink. Wish I had thought of that. We have a large side to the sink and a smaller one over the garbage disposal. But your single sink is a gem!
