Charting the Course: a book review!

I was given this book in exchange for my honest opinion.

Summary from Amazon:

A ten-day Caribbean cruise might sound like a fabulous way to spend the holidays. But Liz would rather be anywhere than stranded on a ship for her estranged father’s high school reunion.

While an anonymous note, an onboard mystery, and a cute boy help turn the tide on the unwanted trip, Liz and her father drift even further apart. However, when Liz's reckless actions create a tsunami of unintended consequences, she recognizes that she's drowning in pent-up hurt and anger. As her carefully created façade begins to ebb away, she turns to her faith and sets off to chart a new course for her life.

My Take:

Charting the Course by Leslea Wahl is a charming story, the second in a series of Faith-based books.  In this world, Leslea's message of loving yourself and giving time to yourself is essential.  Doing the work to accept your part in relationships and make them work is a central theme, and it's also timely.  I love to cruise, and having this story based on a cruise ship was a fun and delightful setting. The character development was realistic, and I have friends like Liz, which made the book relatable to me.  The story was weighed down by several plot lines. I would have liked to have had more details around Liz's self-evaluation and eventual forgiving of past events.  All in all, I have this book a 4-star rating, but I highly recommend it to readers who love faith-based fiction.  ⭐⭐⭐⭐
