Lazy Days of Summer #9

Summer ends for me when teachers come back to school.

I am busy handing out class lists, and talking to parents, and getting handbooks printed. School starting is always an exciting time for me. I remember getting new school clothes and school supplies and loving the smell of my crayons. My mom would mark all my stuff so I could be sure to know which things were mine. I don't think many parents do that any more. I still get new school clothes, school supplies and loving the smell of crayons.

Do homeschooling students have this same feeling? That school starts tomorrow and I am nervous about my studies? I would love to know. I wanted to homeschool Ashley but Bob didn't want to. In retrospect, it was a good idea not to homeschool Ashley. I could not have kept up with her!

How are the rest of you getting ready for the new school year?

Would you like to comment?

  1. I love back to school shopping....last year both K-Mart and Target had spiral notebooks for such a great price that I bought a huge stack...I doubt we need any this year. We will see. The kids and I do use a lot of them, though.

I have two brand new large boxes of crayola crayons on my dresser. They will be brought out the first day the kids do a mapping exercise. Love it!

We even buy new clothes with our weekly homeschool co-op in mind. That is fun too, but cheaper than planning to dress up five days a week.

I begin back to school shopping for curriculum in June or July as I plan for the next school year as soon as the last one is done.

    Yep! We get excited too!!
I love the "newness" of our books!

I think we have a lot in common. More than most would think!

    Have a great day.
    Enjoy your new school year.
The students will make you smile, I know!

I am anxious to get to my co-op music classes and get that positive feedback from my 41 4/6th graders and 20 high schoolers.

  2. I mark all of my son's things with Mabel's Labels - love them! It's so much easier to track everything down when I pick him up at the end of the day!

I still love to shop for back-to-school supplies...all of those notebooks, pencils, lunchboxes and such, bring back such fond memories!

  3. Hi Terri! I still get excited when I walk into a store and see the "back to school" display! I love the smell of school supplies! I know, that's weird, but so did my son. There's nothing as neat as a brand new spiral notebook....and the possibilities of what will be written on its pages!

My mom made all of my clothes, too...even a few winter coats. Dana

  4. I heard from my nephew this morning that his wife, Teri, will have to undergo radical mastectomy in a few weeks. They discovered another mass under the original lump. She is now considered in Stage 2. My heart aches for both of you .... but I know both of you will overcome this with grace, dignity, courage and strength.

I loved hearing about school beginning ... oh, I have such wonderful memories of sending my four out the door in early September.

  5. I'm back to say that I posted a list of the benefits of soy...under the "store link".
    Thanks for the prompting...

  6. Xanti was home schooled and yes, she felt the excitement, too. They were on the Francis Howell schedule, which is year round. Kim worked for Francis Howell during a few of the years.

Xanti is now in college, only the second time she's been in a classroom since she was 11. She was in a classroom, last summer, during photography school.
