Duck Bacon Wrapped Dates with Whiskey Cream Cheese Filling #CookOutWeek

I was given the bacon in exchange for a recipe and my honest opinion of the product.

My family loves appetizers and can eat them for dinner, especially when we make our wrapped dates.  When I received the duck bacon from Maple Leaf Farms, I knew I wanted to update and glam up our original recipe.  I had seen some whiskey cream cheese in other recipes that I wanted to try and this seemed like the right opportunity.

I love that this is a grilled app.  You don't see that a lot, and it is a great way to draw people out into the backyard to snack and drink before the dinner.  Our backyard is perfect for entertaining so let's get the party started with this delicious and easy snack.

Duck Bacon Wrapped Dates with Whiskey Cream Cheese Filling

prep time: cook time: total time:

ingredients:

1 pkg dates
1 8 oz cream cheese, softened
1 oz of your favorite whiskey
1 pkg Maple Leaf Farms Duck Bacon
20 toothpicks

instructions:

Heat the grill to high.  Mix cream cheese and whiskey, set aside.  Split dates along the long side and stuff with a teaspoonful of the cream cheese.  Wrap the date with a half piece of duck bacon and secure with a toothpick.  Place each wrapped date on the grill and cook until bacon is crisp.  Remove from grill, place on a tray.  Rest about 4 minutes, then serve.

These were a big hit in my family, and they are my biggest critics. They have a love of good food and know what they like!  The duck bacon is a must in this glammed up version. The duck bacon adds good apple smoked flavor like regular bacon BUT.... has 57% less fat, so there are fewer flare ups on the grill.  And that's better for everyone.
