Strawberry Basil Smoothies

Welcome to the Improv Cooking Challenge for June:  Strawberries and Basil.  There is so much flavor in this combination and you can see by the list below that there are delicious recipes for you to explore.  This Strawberry Basil Smoothie is a delicious alternative to a cooked breakfast.  It's also cold which is nice when the days start out warm.

Strawberries and basil is a traditional flavor combination.  They are also companion plants, plants that help each other survive.  Basil is excellent for keeping away certain insects and strawberries attract helpful insects to the plants.  Add a little special balsamic vinegar, and this can be savory or sweet!

What I particularly love about this smoothie is that it isn't too sweet.  The fruit does the talking and that is the way that it should be.  Because of this, make sure the strawberries are ripe all the way through.
