Using Champagne Corks for Necklace Organization

The Pinterest Challenge is reorganizing for the 2022 year with our new hosts, Julie from Sum of Our Stories and Gail from Purple Hues and Me who are challenging us to be more sustainable in our crafting.  This month we were challenged to "Shop Our Stash" which is such a great idea. I have tons of craft supplies that need to be used!  This month I decided to aim at the same target twice. I needed to organize my necklaces and I had a ton of champagne corks that I had collected. I came up with a super simple idea that I am in love with!

Years ago my husband made me a cork trivet he had made for Christmas. I used it to hang my necklaces and bracelets on.  I had grown my collection and moved a couple of times, and in my current closet, needed more space for my necklaces.

I decided on using champagne corks to organize my necklaces.  I was inspired by this pin by Andrews Reclaimed.  The knobs on the wood reminded me of corks, and there you go!  My idea was born! Champagne corks have a natural, built-in "stopper" at the end which will keep my necklaces from falling off.  I save these corks from the "bubbles" I have tried or have had at restaurants.

I tried multiple methods for attaching the cork to my wall.  I tried a two-way tape, 3-M strips, and hot glue. For me, the hot glue was the clear winner.  It was easy to apply and stuck the best.  I used the hot glue sticks, but if you are concerned about tearing the drywall, or removing paint, I'd use the cold glue sticks or 3-M strips.

Before.

I heated the glue gun.  I measured and marked where I wanted the corks to go on my wall.  I applied glue to the flat end of the cork and stuck it to the mark on the wall. I held it in place for a few seconds, then moved on to the next one.  I did seven corks in all.  The corks were ready instantly so I hung my necklaces!

  1. Great minds think alike with the cork recycling eh Terri?! They are such a lovely shape aren't they? I'm glad I'm not the only cork collector :-D
This is a clever idea, and as neither the cork or the necklace is very heavy it's good to know that hot glue will do the trick.
