First Impressions
From the moment you arrive, you’re struck by the beauty of the grounds. With its welcoming farmhouse charm, sweeping lake views, and rustic touches, Cedar Lake Cellars offers the perfect blend of elegance and comfort. It’s the kind of place where you can come for a quiet afternoon with a glass of wine or gather with friends for a day of laughter and music. There are several venues for private events like receptions, weddings, and more.
The Food
One of the highlights of my visit was the food. Cedar Lake’s menu is designed for sharing, and every bite feels like a treat. From artisan flatbreads topped with fresh ingredients to hearty sandwiches and creative appetizers, the food pairs beautifully with their wines. It’s more than “winery food”—it’s a full dining experience that stands on its own. There is a Smokehouse barn to grab a lighter fare such as sandwiches and burgers.
Inside the restaurant, there is a more elegant feel. The menu includes delicious pasta dishes and prime rib. We ordered Short Rib Stroganoff Ravioli (divine!) and the Prime Rib (perfectly cooked!). We started with shrimp cocktail, our go-to way of measuring a restaurant's value (how they treat this classic dish tells a lot about the restaurant). The shrimp themselves were firm, pink, and sweet. The sauce was just ok in our book, but it definitely was the restaurant's own take, which we admired. Overall, we gave the restaurant a 4.5 on a scale of 5.0.
The Wine
Of course, you can’t visit a winery without sampling the wines, and Cedar Lake Cellars does not disappoint. We did a wine tasting that included five one ounce samples of the wines we chose. The glass was included as well. Our wine expert was Caitlyn, who was generous with both the pours and her knowledge. They offer a wide selection, from crisp whites to bold reds, along with seasonal specialties. The tasting experience is relaxed and approachable, making it perfect for both wine lovers and those just beginning their journey. My personal favorite? The Reserved Merlot. Soft and velvety, this wine had all the smoothness of Sean Connery in his James Bond movies. Little nose, but wild cherry and a hint of caramel at the end. Good for food pairings but also for front porch sipping.
Live Music & Entertainment
Cedar Lake is not just about food and wine—it’s a hub for live entertainment. Their music line-ups feature local and regional artists who bring the outdoor patio to life. There’s nothing quite like sitting with a glass of wine, sharing a meal, and listening to live music while the sun sets over the lake. It’s pure Missouri magic. We listened to the tunes of Stephen Jones, a guitarist with a lovely voice who sang many genres. The music was present but not so much that we couldn't have a conversation.

This looks like such an adventure...and you didn't have to go far. Perfect!! Thanks for joining me.
ReplyDeleteI did visit Missouri once, many years ago. It was before I was into wine, and probably before there was a winery there, but we did visit the St. Louis Arch. I will have to look for this winery should we travel that way in the RV.
ReplyDeleteI have to admit I rarely think of Missouri when I think of wine - even though it has the honor of being the first recognized AVA in the U.S.
ReplyDeleteCedar Lake sounds like a lovely destination!
So nice to have getaways that are not too far from home, yet still special!
