Koreans, through their mukbangs, shows and most importantly, music, have successfully spread their culture across the world. If you have ever caught a glimpse of any of the Korean shows on TV or have seen mukbangs on YouTube, then you will surely know what Jajangmyeon is. For those of you who don’t, it's Korean ramen (black bean noodles) cooked with black bean paste, giving the noodles a dark appearance. Since it’s ramen, you can throw in some vegetables and a protein of your choice; in our case, we’ll use beef jerky!

 

First, you will need to get a hold of a pack of instant black bean noodles from your local Asian grocer. From here on, the process is very simple. With about two cups of water, you first boil the noodles until it becomes just cooked. After that, you drain the water until you have about 7 tablespoons of broth left. To this, simply add in the spices or soup mixture and some beef jerky. Stir fry for about 2 minutes and then serve. You can also poach an egg and have some kimchi on the side if you feel like it.

 

Jerky Tomato Sauce


Beef jerky is a versatile ingredient and as you will see, it can be used in so many different ways. You can add beef jerky to your tomato sauce preparation! It adds a little bit of richness and thickness to the sauce, making it a perfect topping for pasta.

 

You will need:

-      3 to 4 ounces of beef jerky

-      A tablespoon of vegetable oil

-      Chopped onions and bell pepper (½ cup each)

-      Kosher salt (to taste)

-      Parsley

-      Minced garlic

-      A can of chopped tomatoes

-      ¼ of a cup of heavy cream

 

First, fire up your pan and drizzle some vegetable oil. Throw in your bell peppers and onions then sprinkle a pinch of kosher salt onto the mix. Saute this until you see the onions turning transparent. This is when you add in the garlic and cook it for another 2 to 3 minutes. Make sure to stir the mixture now and then. After that, throw in your can of chopped tomatoes, some parsley, the heavy cream, and finally, your beef jerky. Cook the mixture until the sauce becomes thick and creamy. Now, it’s ready to be served with pasta or rice.

 

Vietnamese Green Papaya Salad


If you’re on a diet or want to have something refreshing alongside your main course, then this salad is a great option. For this, you will need:

 

-      32 ounces of shredded green papaya

-      5 ounces of beef jerky (crumbled or cut into strips)

-      Thai basil (cut into strips)

-      ½ cup of soy sauce

-      Sugar and vinegar (to taste)

-      5 cloves of garlic

-      Sriracha

 

You will need to start by peeling, deseeding, and shredding the papaya. Then, in a large bowl, toss the papaya with basil leaves. Add in the rest of the ingredients and mix further. If you don’t want the extra kick, then you can skip out the sriracha sauce. Crumble the beef jerky on top of the preparation, and you’re good to go.

 

Beef Jerky Omelet


What do you usually throw into your omelet as fillings? Mushrooms are usually a popular choice of filling, but have you ever tried adding beef jerky to it too? No special skills for this one!

 

Firstly, beat eggs in a bowl, then, in a non-stick skillet, melt some butter. This will be used to fry the omelet. However, if you want to go down the healthier route, then you can switch the butter out with olive oil. When the pan and butter are hot enough, add the eggs. Within a few moments, you can use a silicone cooking spatula to gently pull the edges towards the center of the omelet. Pick up your skillet and tilt it around slightly to spread the uncooked egg out. Now is a good time to add in your fillings, or our case, beef jerky! You can add some herbs or parmesan cheese at this point too. Fry for a while (not too long, for about 30 to 60 seconds), then use your spatula to gently fold the omelet and serve it hot.

 

Beans with Beef Jerky

For the ingredients, you will be needing:

-      2 ounces of minced beef jerky

-      2 teaspoons of olive oil

-      3 cups of chopped onions

-      1 medium green bell pepper

-      5 minced cloves of garlic

-      Chicken stock

-      2 tablespoons of molasses

-      2 teaspoons of powdered cumin

-      15 ounces of rinsed and dried pinto beans

 

In a dutch oven, heat your oil and throw in the onions, bell pepper, and garlic. Cook this for about 5 minutes before pouring in the chicken broth and the rest of the ingredients. Bring this mixture to a boil. Once it starts bubbling, turn down the heat. On a low flame, simmer the mixture for about an hour. You will know it’s ready when the broth is reduced to about half of its original volume. If you and your family prefer baked beans, you could also try this slow cooker baked beans recipe instead, which should pair well with your jerky.
