How to Make your Garden look Stunning on a Budget

If you want to make your garden look fantastic then there are a few steps that you can take. Sure, being on a budget doesn’t make things easy, but there are things that you can do to try and make the money that you have, work for you.

Grow From Seed

The cheapest way for you to make your garden work for you would be for you to sow some seeds. It doesn’t matter whether you are sowing flower seeds or whether you sow vegetable seeds, because you need to try and take into account the packet sizes. Sometimes you may find that you end up getting enough to sow for the next year as well, so keep that in mind.

Plant and then Divide

One very cost-effective way for you to try and fill a flowerbed would be for you to try and invest in perennials. With this, you can plant and then divide them. Now, this may seem like a very advanced form of gardening but it’s not at all. In fact, it will work well with clumpy perennials, which can include geraniums. Simply tip the plant out of its pot and then pull it into three separate bits. You’ll need to make sure that each one has some roots and a stalk. When you’ve done this, plant each part in a flower bed. When the next year comes, you can then pull them apart again. This will help you to gain even more plants. Six geranium plants are usually more than sufficient to get a good garden going. If you want to water them efficiently then why not invest in some plastic storage tanks? So you can store rainwater with ease.

Shape Up

One of the best and the easiest ways for you to transform your garden would be for you to cut your lawn. When you mow it, you can then see the shape that you can create with it. It may be that you need to add a bit of shape or structure. You could have a square, a circle or even an oblong. Either way, mark it out with a spade and then cut out the excess grass. It is not a hard job, and usually it will take an afternoon.

Use Containers

If you do not have a lawn then container gardening is a fantastic way for you to get your garden looking great. You can have blooming flowers if you want and this is the best solution if you have patios, balconies, or another type of paved area. Remember that some containers restrict the growth of roots, so keep this in mind if you can.

Paint

You would be surprised at how a simple lick of paint can make a difference to an old fence. If you paint your fence, then you can then give your plants a stunning backdrop and this will really make sure that your garden stands out. If you aren’t sure what color to go for then black can be the way to go.  It will make your garden feel cozy and it will provide a fantastic contrast to your bright plants.
