There are some things in life that just feel right the moment you hold them, and my A5 journal is one of those things.
It is royal blue leather, made by Foxy Fix, a company I adored and sadly can no longer find online. I hope they are simply taking a break, because they made beautiful things. The front is stamped with a sunflower — one of my all-time favorite flowers — and I have it clasped with a navy elastic band that has the sweetest little leaf-shaped charm. Every time I pick it up, it makes me happy before I even open it.
And what is inside? A little bit of everything, honestly.
I use it mostly as a home for lists. There are pages of possible journal prompts for days when I sit down to write and my mind goes blank. There are wish lists of vacations I want to take someday, flowers I want to grow, things I want to try. And then there is what I can only call the hot mess of teaching right now, because anyone who works in education knows that keeping track of everything requires a dedicated space just to sort it all out.
But my favorite part might be the business card pockets. I have completely repurposed them to hold stickers, membership cards, small pens, and those tiny post-it flags I reach for constantly. It is a little pocket-sized supply kit tucked right inside my journal, which means I am always ready to mark a page, add a little color, or jot something down on the fly.
A good journal is more than a notebook. It is a system, a companion, and a small daily pleasure all at once.
Do you keep a journal or planner that has become truly your own? I would love to hear what makes it work for you.
