Pimento Cheese Dog

#SummerGamesWeek continues with an All-American favorite: hot dogs!  Born and raised in the USA, my family would enjoy a grilled hot dog on a weekly basis.  We typically enjoyed our hot dogs with the standard condiments of ketchup, mustard, pickle relish, and freshly chopped onion.  As I grew older I started to realize that there were regional hot dogs that I had to try and the first one was a Chicago dog.  I was hooked, and that started my adventure in trying hot dogs all over the States.  This pimento dog was one I tried in Georgia many years ago and I decided to share it all with you.

To continue my pattern of sharing my teams with you, let me tell you a little about the USA as it pertains to the Summer Olympics. First, the USA has participated in every Olympic Games with the exception of the 1980 Olympics. We have taken home 1,022 gold medals, 795 silver, and 709 bronze medals. Most of the medals come from Athletics and Swimming.  Bird, a basketball player, and Alvarez, a baseball player, will share the honor of the flag carriers this year.  The Games are an honored event each summer and I know that my family looks forward to it when it comes!

My Summer Olympic Adventure

My family and I attended the 1996 Olympics in Atlanta.  We saw so many wonderful events!  We stayed with a family friend who lived in Atlanta and who was working the Games.  We were in town when the bomb went off in Centennial Olympic Park but not at the park. Atlanta citizens did a wonderful job in making these games special for all the athletes and visitors to their city.  Our daughter got to meet several athletes, all of who were kind and excited to be there!

Let's Make Hot Dogs!

We make these hot dogs by splitting the bun and toasting it with butter, splitting the hot dog in half and grilling it (or frying it in a pan), and slathering our pimento cheese over the cooked hot dog.  Topped with some chopped onion, this hot dog is a game changer!

What kind of pimento cheese do I use?

I use my favorite store-bought brand, but I have had homemade pimento cheese, too, which would be amazing on this hot dog!

What brand of hot dog should I use?

Use what your favorite brand of hot dog is.  I like Nathan's but there are others that are wonderful, too.

What's a good side dish for these hot dogs?

Hot Honey Skillet Corn is a delicious side dish, as well as Deviled Egg Potato Salad.

  2. That's so neat that you got to go to the Atlanta games! I've never been to them but would love to go someday! Regional hot dogs are so fun (love me a good coney island dog!) and I can't wait to try this version!
