Your 3-Day Camping Wardrobe (Rainy, Chilly, Warm)

A three-day camping wardrobe needs to do one thing really well: layer and adapt. You don’t need a lot—you need the right pieces that work together. I’m going to build this in your style: practical, comfortable, with just enough cozy charm to feel like you.

There is something about camping that reminds me how little we truly need to feel happy.

A good cup of coffee by the fire. A cozy sweatshirt that smells faintly like campfire smoke. A pair of shoes that can handle muddy trails and spontaneous walks to the lake at sunset. Camping has never been about looking perfect for me. It has always been about feeling comfortable enough to notice the beauty around me.

Over the years, I have learned that packing for camping is really about preparing for all the little surprises nature likes to hand us. Rain before breakfast. A chilly breeze after a hot afternoon. Bright sunshine that suddenly turns into a thunderstorm. The best camping wardrobe is layered, forgiving, and easy to move in.

For Day One, I always like a comfortable travel outfit that can transition easily into campfire mode. A soft tank, lightweight button up, and comfortable shorts or joggers work beautifully. Once the sun goes down, I pull on an oversized flannel and cozy socks and suddenly everything feels magical.

Rainy camping days call for practical comfort. Leggings, waterproof shoes, and a good rain jacket can completely change your mood when the weather shifts. I also firmly believe that cute earrings and a cheerful coffee mug still matter in the rain. Little touches help us feel like ourselves, even under cloudy skies.

Hot camping days are when I lean into easy pieces like athletic dresses, skorts, breathable tanks, and lightweight layers. I want clothes that let me sit by the water, wander through a campground, visit a farmers market nearby, or chase Miles through the grass without thinking too hard about it.

Here is what I recommend packing:

Tops:
• Lightweight tees
• A soft flannel
• A cozy sweatshirt
• A lightweight button up

Bottoms:
• Leggings
• Shorts
• Jeans

Shoes:
• Trail sneakers
• Waterproof shoes or boots
• Camp sandals or slides

Extras:
• Rain jacket
• Cozy socks
• Hat and sunglasses
• Crossbody bag

And of course, the truly important camping essentials:
A paperback book. A blanket for stargazing. A notebook for thoughts you only seem to have outdoors. Twinkle lights. Marshmallows. Quiet mornings. And my paint kit, always have a paint kit! And people you love nearby.

Camping style, at least for me, is less about fashion and more about creating space to fully enjoy the experience. Comfortable enough for adventure. Cozy enough for rest. And layered enough for whatever the weather decides to do next.
