Four Outdoor Hobbies You Can Do In Your Spare Time

Having a  great hobby is a great way to spend your spare time. Many people believe that they do not have enough time for a hobby, or dedicate too much of their time to other people. It is important to have a hobby that you enjoy so that you can spend your time on something that you love and enjoy. It can be particularly great if you can combine your hobby with the great outdoors because spending time outdoors with friends and family has a lot of health benefits.

Outdoor Hobbies

Hiking

Hiking is a great way to get out of the house and explore new areas. If you have never been hiking before, you may be surprised at the number of places close to where you live that you might have never explored. All you need to start hiking is a good pair of walking boots, and you are ready to go.

Not only is hiking a great way to explore new areas, but it is also a great form of exercise. You can walk a distance of your choosing at a pace of your choosing and notice welcomed improvements to your mental and physical health without having to put in too much effort.

Rock Climbing

Rock climbing is a great way to develop strength in your body, and the determination to meet new challenges. Rock climbing can be an outdoor activity, but if you are a little apprehensive about trying to climb up an outdoor wall straight away, you can train and practice at indoor rock climbing centers. You can start on the easier walls and allow yourself to feel triumphant as you move onto the more challenging walls. Before you know it, you’ll be challenging yourself to go out climbing in nature.

Fishing

Fishing is a hobby that can have many benefits. Not only will you do things like learn to catch trout in a pond, but you will also feel the benefits of being able to reconnect with nature and take a break from the technology-filled world. Fishing is a great way to spend time bonding with your family as you impart your knowledge onto the next generation and create fun memories that they will think back on when they get older. It can make you feel a sense of independence, as you can catch your own food, and can be great for strength building because it can be hard work to pull even the smallest fish out of the water!

Geocaching

Geocaching is an excellent hobby for people who love exploring and also like the idea of treasure hunting. It combines the benefits of being out in nature with the use of technology. You can use a geocaching app on your phone to join a worldwide treasure hunt. The app helps you to locate containers called geocaches that contain a logbook that you can fill out and several other items and trinkets that you can trade or look at. It is a great way to go walking without feeling like you are just walking; instead, you are on a mission to find a geocache.

Mountain Bike Riding

Riding mountain bikes is a great way to get exercise, time outdoors, and adventure, all in one ride. Getting off the main trail gets you away from the hustle and bustle of the city and gets you to explore scenic trails or dirt roads. Mountain biking isn't just for the mountains, you can take routes that are smooth trails to scenic desert routes or even the heart-pumping mountains.

Outdoor Exercise

Tai Chi and Yoga are Eastern practices that combine physical movement with mindful attention to posture and breathwork to increase wellness.  Both can be performed outdoors, matching a spiritual connectedness with nature.  Tai Chi is a series of dance-like movements that are performed on your feet. Yoga is a series of postures that are held for a short time and performed on the floor.
