Exercise

Exercise is definitely one of the best ways to increase your overall sense of well-being. It has a great effect on your physical health for a start. It helps you lose weight and keep the weight off, it is protective against many forms of illness like type 2 diabetes and some cancers. It is always great for your mental health too. Exercise is a great benefit for your mental health too. It increases the number of happy hormones in the brain and acts as a natural anti-depressant; it also helps you feel more pleasure in life as it raises dopamine, the brain's natural reward hormone. It reduces the stress hormone cortisol, too. It has the effect of giving you more energy which can only be a blessing in this busy world. If you have not exercised in a long time, you don't have to go from zero to hero. Start slow, and increase the amount of walking you do. Just upping your exercise levels and not eating more to compensate should help you lose a little weight, at least initially. Then build up as you get stronger. If you are concerned about your health at all, talk to a doctor before starting any exercise regime.

Practice Gratitude

If you want to find a way to develop a happier mindset, then you should practice gratitude. Practicing gratitude is, in effect, a way of training your mind to focus on the positive things in your life, with an aim to reduce negative thinking. At the end of the day, it is our thoughts that control our happiness and sense of well-being, so you need to learn to control what you think about. The good news is that practicing gratitude is relatively straightforward. All you have to do is think of at least three things on your life that you are happy about. These can be personal attributes like your skin or hair or anything in your life like your family, your job, co-workers, etc. As long as you are truly grateful that these things are in your life. The best time to do this is in the morning, so it sets you up for the day. All you have to do is think about three things, say them out loud if you want to, or write them down. Try and generate a really happy feeling and learn how to hang onto it. The longer you can sustain this happy feeling, the happier you will become. During the day, when you catch yourself dwelling on something negative, remember one of these things, and this should help you so the negative thinking spiral.

Upgrade Your Home

The home has a huge influence on the way we feel. So it is important that you put some effort into upgrading your home. Things that make a big difference include thorough decluttering. Clutter can cause a lot of problems from stress, anxiety, and depression and can even prevent you from sleeping well. Other ways include allowing more natural lighting in the home. To do this, perhaps, you could have custom home windows made to let more light in. How about painting the walls a lighter color or putting some mirrors up to make the space seems larger. Plants are another thing that has a great effect on well-being. It may be an idea to do some investigation and discover ways you can change your home to increase your sense of well-being. Remember, you spend an awful lot of time at home, so make it a place you want to be.

Start a Hobby

You may not be aware of it, but starting a hobby can be extremely beneficial to your well-being. There are many reasons for this, a hobby can give you a positive focus in your life and can even become a way of meeting new people and expanding your social horizons. A hobby, especially a creative one like art and writing, can be therapeutic. It can be a way of helping you work through some kind of trauma in your life that has never been resolved. It can become a form of meditation too. When you are in the act of creating something, you become completely engrossed in the work. This act puts you into a flow state where nothing but you and the work exists, and that is similar to meditation. A hobby can give you a great sense of achievement too. A hobby is a great, constructive way to focus energy and enhance your sense of well-being.

Mindfulness

If you really want to have a better sense of well-being, then you need to control your thoughts, this idea is touched on in the practice gratitude section, but there are other ways you can achieve it. Mindfulness is about being truly present in the moment, not getting upset, or regretting the past, or worrying about the future. It is about enjoying the moment we live in. There are a few ways you can learn to do this. Using meditation is perhaps one of the most famous ways of practicing mindfulness. It is all about forgetting your stressing and learning to let things go. Things that hang over you have power over you, so let them go. If you can learn how to do this, your well-being will rise drastically. What you think is essential to your well-being.
