Peach Citrus Iced Tea #NationalIcedTeaDay

Happy National Iced Tea Day!  Here's to that southern favorite, the drink that invites neighbors to the porch, inspiring us to purchase special glass pitchers, where we debate sweet v. unsweet tea. I prefer unsweet tea only because I want a refreshing drink with no or low carbs.  I grew up with sweet tea, so I know how delicious it is!

Steeping the perfect pitcher of tea is fairly simple.  First, use one teabag per quart of water.  Add 2 cups of water (212 degrees for black and herbal tea, 185 degrees for green tea) to your pitcher.  Steep 5 minutes for black and herbal teas, 3 minutes for green tea.  Then add 2 cups of water.  Serve over ice and enjoy!

If you are going to sweeten your tea afterward, please provide simple syrup for your guests, as it melts into the water immediately, unlike crystal sugar.  If you must use sugar, use superfine.

For Peach Citrus Iced Tea, use two bags of Peach Citrus Tea from Teavana per quart of water and brew as suggested above.  To sweeten the tea, use the syrup from a can of sliced peaches.  Add ice to 1/4 of the way up in a tall iced tea glass, add in lemon, lime, and orange slices, then add ice to halfway up.  Pour the Peach Citrus tea into the glass.  Sweeten with peach syrup as desired.  Garnish with a lemon slice.
