Wrestling Your Property Back from Nature

Our homes stay neat and tidy because we take the time to care for them. If we don't, they can be reclaimed by nature surprisingly quickly. This is especially true outdoors, where plants and trees can quickly take over if you don't keep them at bay. You might find yourself with this problem if you haven't had time to look after your land or you've moved into a new property that has been neglected. It might seem as if you have an impossible task ahead of you if things have gotten out of hand, but you can still wrestle back control.

Come Up with a Strategy

When you have a big project ahead of you, it can be difficult to know where to start. It can be especially overwhelming when you have visual evidence of just how much work is in front of you. That's why it's important to have a strategy if you're clearing your property. It will give you a clear idea of the work you have to do and the order you should do it in. Spend some time taking a good look at the situation and writing a list of tasks that need to be completed.

Start Clearing Gradually

You can't do everything at once but you have to start somewhere. Starting gradually will allow you to make a start and begin to see a difference in what your land looks like. It might not look like you're doing much at first, but you'll soon start to see that things are changing. Begin by getting rid of any trash that could get in the way, then start removing dead plants and trees and trimming hedges. It's also smart to identify anything that you might want to keep, such as a particularly nice tree.

Reclaim a Lawn or Field

When you have a large area of land, such as a field or a sprawling lawn, getting it back under your control can seem like a daunting task. However, it might also be easier in some ways because you have an open space to deal with. You might start by looking into brush mowing or getting overgrown grass mowed. This might be all you need to do to get your land back and into a neater state. You might also need to carry out some other tasks, from clearing grass clippings to scarifying and aerating to help healthy grass grow.

Remove Trees Safely

If you want to remove any trees, one of your priorities needs to be doing this safely. Larger trees especially can be dangerous to cut down on your own. Ideally, you should get a qualified arborist or tree surgeon to do the job for you. However, for smaller or medium-sized trees, you may be able to cut them down yourself using an ax or saw. You can then remove the remaining stump by hiring a backhoe to dig it out.

Clearing your overgrown land might look like a huge task, but a good plan will make it much easier to tackle.
