Those First Few Weeks With Your New Baby

When you have a new baby, you need time to settle in. It’s a whole new life, even if you’ve had children previously, and you need time to adjust to that. Your body needs time to heal, you need time to get your mind back in order, and it’s nice to just spend those first few weeks with you and your family.

In this article, we’re just going to be taking a look at those first few weeks, and what we feel you should be prioritizing in that time. So, that’s what we’re going to be diving into now if you’re interested in staying with us.

Just Soak It Up

The first piece of advice that we have got for you is to just soak it up. Soak up that time where it’s just you and them if you feel like this is what you want to do. There should be no pressure for you to see anyone else, or do anything else at this stage. As we mentioned above, you’re still  healing and you need time to do that in peace.

It’s okay to want to do this, and we don’t think that you should let anyone tell you otherwise. Anyone who tries to push you into anything that you’re not ready for isn’t someone that you need in your life to be honest with you.

Get Checked By A Doctor

Another thing that you’re going to need to prioritize is getting your postpartum checkup at the doctor. Even if you feel fine, it’s important that both you and baby get checked out just to be on the safe side. Some issues can hide, and we’re not saying that there is anything wrong but it’s always better to be safe, than sorry right?

Your doctor or your midwife should talk to you about this when you’ve had your baby, letting you know when you ideally need to have this check, so make sure you’re booking it in.

It’s Okay To Feel However You Feel

Finally, we cannot stress this point enough - it’s okay to feel however you feel. Your hormones are still completely thrown out of balance, everything has turned upside down, and your body has been through a lot. You can try speaking to someone about what’s going on inside your head if you want to, and we recommend that you do because often things are better out than in.

Having said that, we understand that it can be hard, especially if you’re struggling with low mood or negative feelings. This doesn’t mean that you don’t love your baby though, and it’s important you understand that.

Of course, if you feel great, in love with your little baby, and loving every second of it, this is great too. Don’t let anyone tell you you’re ‘too clingy’, as this doesn’t exist with babies the way some people say it does.

Hopefully, you have found this article helpful, and now see what you should be thinking about when it comes to those first few weeks with your new baby.
