Upcycled Plate Flowers for the Garden #SustainablePinterestChallenge

This month for our Sustainable Pinterest Challenge we are upcycling items into something new and different!  I made this Upcycled Plate Flower using plates found at Goodwill and garage sales.  I am a part of a neighborhood craft group and several of us made items using dishes.

I posted this craft on my Christmas blog called Christmas Tree Lane.  Since the original post, I have now put my glass flower in my garden and I think it looks amazing!  I was inspired by this pin on Pinterest.  When I saw how beautiful they were in real life, I couldn't stop myself!

What I learned about doing this project (the materials and steps are on the Christmas blog mentioned above) is that you will need to make sure the silicone has plenty of time to dry.  We were having damp weather, so it took a good four days to really dry into a solid.  My copper pipe is about an inch in diameter, so it is super strong.  I also used a zip tie to hold the pipe to the fence for extra stability.  The plate flower is really heavy!

Here is a list of this month's participants.  I am very excited to share their upcycled projects with you!

The birdbath and the blue plate flower were also made by friends in my crafting group.  Aren't they gorgeous?

Each of these garden plate flowers is unique.  It totally depends on the plates and other pieces that are available to you.

  1. What beautiful plate flowers you and your crafting friends made. I imagine they really can be very heavy, so I love the tip about attaching yours to the fence for stability.

  6. These are really cool looking and a great way to create art in the garden. I have a new fence that I need to add some decorations to next year after we put a coat of sealant on the fence. These are a great idea. Thanks for sharing it.

  7. Such a pretty and clever idea! I really love these gorgeous plate flowers, and I definitely want to make my own one day. I love a colorful and fun flower garden, and a lovely plate flower would be a great addition. I'm still waiting on more flowers to pop up in my flower bed. I feel like we had a late start to summer out here in WA.
